The truth is that they two boys were playing near a sump when it caved in, taking the two down with it. The one got out and to keep from getting into trouble for playing where he was not supposed to be, he made up this elaborate story about his friend being shot and kidnapped. Tragically, the other little boy did die in the accident. And to make things worse, authorities believe if the boy had told the truth they may have reached the other child in time to save him.
