Recently, I was asked this question by a fellow worship leader, “Do people from your church have access to your blog?” As it turned out, my friend’s Pastor stumbled across her blog and put a link to it on the church website. And it was really troubling her because she wasn’t wanting church members to have access to the sometimes sensitive information she was passing along to other WL’s for feedback about, well… THEM. To me, this was very understandable. And, for the record I think the Pastor should have gotten her permission to do that.
As for me, my church does have access to my blog. In fact, there is a link to it right on my bio page on the church’s website. Personally, I have other avenues, with which I can share more sensitive issues and get valuable feedback in the process. But for some WL’s, their blog is a sacred place. In some respects, and especially within the confines of the worship leader network that has developed from the blog carnival at FredMcKinnon.com, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes, sensitive sort of information being shared among all of us. So I fully understand my friend’s feelings here.
There is no right or wrong answer, as we all have uniquely different situations and circumstances. But in an effort to gain a wider perspective, I would like to know your take on this issue.
Worship Leaders, do YOU share your blog with your church?

I don’t use my pastoral blog or my personal blog to discuss sensitive issues about church or ministry team members. That typically happens in person with the other church pastors or a mentor.
And yes, my pastoral blog is located right on our church web site with all the other pastoral blogs. We deliberately started blogging to engage our church in another form of conversation.
My wife and I use our blogs, and social networking sites to try and draw our church outside of the building and facilitate “community” among the congregation.

I do share mine. I just started in April and have been flying under the radar at church for a while, not hiding, but not fully publishing. My blog address is on my email signature, so people see it.
We are reading the Bible in 90 Days this Summer at church and I have been posting a blog entry each day with my thoughts on the reading. The program coordinator found out and posted my blog in the bulletin last week! No worries – I’m fine with it. I’ve got nothing to hide. People at church know me and know that “what you see is what you get” with their worship leader!
Interestingly though, when I first started, my wife asked me “why?” I really thought about it and (of course) blogged about it. http://dennarr.wordpress.com/2009/04/16/what-am-i-doing-writing-this-blog/ The upshot being that I see my blog as just one of the extensions of my leading worship at church and being a true and genuine Christ Follower (one who is not perfect, but open and approachable).

Absolutely. Full access to what is on my worship blog. In fact, I will be using my worship blog in the near future in conjunction with a worship curriculum that I hope to teach at our church. I desire feedback from worshipers, not just worship leaders. At the same time, you will never see me whining online about how I just can’t get our people to worship better. Not gonna happen.
