If You Grew Up On A Secluded Island…

Our Men’s Ministry, JourneyMEN, has been studying Francis Chan’s book, “Crazy Love” for several weeks now. In the book, he poses a hypothetical, but very thought-provoking question. It’s a question I have been meditating on, and really searching my heart about. So I wanted to ask it here…

If you were born and raised on a secluded island, having no outside influence and nothing to read but the Bible, what would church look like in your mind? And if you were rescued from that island as a young adult, and came to the United States, would you say that churches here resemble what you imagined church would look like while reading God’s Word for all those many years?

James 1:19 says to be “quick to listen and slow to speak”

Proverbs 12:23 says, “the heart of fools blurts out folly.”

The bible is clear. We are to be careful with our words.

Slow to speak. Quick to listen. And only fools blurt out folly.

With that fresh on your mind, please turn your thoughts to Social Media.

Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and many more outlets on the web provide countless opportunities for us to share our thoughts.

Few of us have ever had such a large and captive audience. I mean, the average person has the ability to reach hundreds, even thousands of readers a day!

What a huge responsibility!

Question for Christians: Are we applying God‘s Word to our online lives? Or are we feeling immune to, or even hidden from it?

How many foolish things do I blurt out to the masses? Am I really quick to listen and slow to speak?

James 3:8 says it directly, “no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.”

I wonder what James would have to say about taming our tweets.

Happy Day – Tim Hughes

Let Creation Sing – Hillsong

Holy And Anointed One – Kutless

Worthy Is The Lamb – Hillsong

Breathe – Passion – Invitation/Altar Call

This was a great morning of praise and worship for our church. Our youth got down front and were dancing and giving hand gestures for the song “Happy Day”. It was so energetic and fun. And they made it even more so.

“Let Creation Sing” was an excellent call to worship. I love this song!

“Holy and Anointed One” was a new song for our church, even though it’s been around for quite a while. It was the perfect song to move closer to the Lord in worship after prayer time. Daybreak loved it.

“Worthy Is The Lamb” is one we’ve done quite a few times, and every time we sing this song about our Lord, He moves our hearts in a mighty way. The corporate attitude of worship was amazing. And this was a tremendous segue into the Pastor’s message on how the Lord reveals himself in His world, and in His Word.

Finally, all the music and the Pastor’s message out of God’s Word softened many hearts and set up an amazing prayer time and altar call at the invitation. I love seeing lives transformed and renewed in the presence of the Almighty!

Word Of God SpeakMercy Me

This morning was an awesome time of worship! Everything went well, and I loved the attitude of worship that I saw! My only regret is that I started tearing up on Word Of God Speak, and for whatever reason I couldn’t shake it off. My voice was shaky from trying to control the torrent of tears that was pressing the backs of my eyes. Nevertheless, everyone worshiped through my emotions and poor singing, so I was glad.

Has this ever happened to you? What do you do when you’re leading a song and tears of surrender and worship press hard to be released? My throat closed up and my vocals were rendered powerless. Vocal gurus, is there a secret to controlling this?

Thank you for reading my blog. I would love it if you would comment below and tell me about your worship service/s this morning. And I invite you to go over to check out other Sunday Setlists at theworshipcommunity.com.

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus – Invitation/Altar call

I stepped away from blogging over the last couple of months.  Summer time-Family time-Down time. But I’m excited to be back in my blogging chair!

I was very pleased with our worship service on Sunday. As you can see, we had a Lincoln Brewster kick-off to the morning. And even though we were without our drummer, those songs provided great energy and some awesome praise to the King!

The song “Pure”, by Gateway is one of my favorites. And LeAnn always sings the Kari Jobe stuff that we do so beautifully! This one is a staple in our rotation, and it was a great moment of worship on Sunday.

I run to You when my heart is weak
I cling to You, You’re all I seek
It’s my heart’s desire to be close to You
Here in Your arms I find my strength

And Hiding Place, by Jared Anderson was a sweet, closing moment to our worship time. God is our hiding place. I love Psalm 46: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Dictionary.com says that ‘refuge’ means – shelter or protection from danger, trouble. It’s so vitally important for us all to realize how real, and how tangible our ‘hiding place’ or our ‘refuge’ is in the Lord. And I love how the chorus of this song stayed in theme with the chorus of ‘Pure’.

I will run to the hiding place
I will run to the hiding place
Draw me ever closer to look upon Your face
I will run to the hiding place

I hope you had an intimate time of worshiping our Lord and Savior during your worship service. Would you comment below, and share any special moments you had in your church service, or with the Lord in general this week?

Ringing Hands

This photo is an accurate depiction of my life right now.

I’m ringing my hands a lot. I feel alone, and distressed. Everywhere I turn there are major issues and concerns. A heavy weight of burden is laying over my spirit, and I am overwhelmed.

        Finances | Family unrest | Wife’s job | Health | Global catastrophes

It’s difficult to find faith at times like this. It’s hard to see beyond the stress and fix my gaze on the Lord. But I know it’s what I must do. It’s what I am doing.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry  about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t there more to life than food and more to the body than clothing? …” – Matthew 6:25-30

What helps you look beyond the stress to see the Lord?

Order of Service – PCO

This week was nice. We had piano, keys, and drums. And we only had three vocalists. It was a nice minimalistic sound. We combined The Heart Of Worship and Here I Am To Worship in a medley that went really well together. We sang T.H.O.W. through the first chorus, repeated the chorus, and then flowed seamlessly into the chorus of H.I.A.T.W. It was great!

And we did He Knows My Name for the first time at our church. I love this song! It had a nice gospel feel to it, and Jason, our pianist did a great job of adding that element to the song.

Overall, it was an awesome morning of worship! Please comment below and tell me what you think, and what you did at your church last week.

God Sings Over Us

“The Lord your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.”

– Zephaniah 3:17

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Alpha and the Omega, the Great I Am, the Creator of EVERYTHING… rejoices and sings over ME?! How do I wrap my head around this one? It’s one of the most overwhelming things I have ever thought of or felt.

Thoughts?

Hiding Place – Jared Anderson

A lot of our women were out at the coast on a Women’s Retreat this weekend, including my wife LeAnn, who normally co-leads the worship services with me. So today was a bit different than usual. But it turned out great! It was a dynamic set, and even though we had fewer people in church today, due to the retreat, the worship was awesome.

We introduced a new song, Hiding Place by the Desperation Band and Jared Anderson. I think the church really liked it. Very nice addition to our rotation!
